SANADOR Hospital is launching a new Cardiac Surgery Department

Bucharest, 26.11.2013:
Two years after the opening of the largest multi-disciplinary private hospital in Romania, SANADOR have invested approx. EUR 1 million in its new Cardiac Surgery Department.

The new department is provided with the newest and the highest complexity surgical technologies that allow the performance of highly complex surgical procedures:

  • myocardial revascularization by aorto-coronary bypass and arterial grafts exclusively,
  • aortic and mitral valvuloplasty interventions,
  • simple and multiple valve replacements,
  • major vascular surgery interventions under extra-corporeal circulation, as:
    • surgical cure of thoracic and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms,
    • surgical cure of aortic dissection, or
    • repairing of the mechanical complication of myocardial infarction.

New domains shall be approached as:

  • endoaortic stent grafting,
  • Transcatheter Aortic-Valve Implantation (TAVI), and
  • minimally invasive cardiac surgery.

The Cardiac Surgery team shall provide complete cardiovascular surgery services that cover the whole range of surgical interventions performed in the adults’ pathology.

The Cardiac Surgery team shall be led by PhD Associate Professor, Horaţiu Moldovan, Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon, PhD in Medical Sciences, a specialist with medical expertise over 25 year and more than 3,000 open heart surgeries performed within the “C.C. Iliescu” Emergency Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases within Fundeni Hospital in Bucharest. PhD Associate Professor Horaţiu Moldovan is a fellow of the Medical Sciences Academy in Romania, Secretary General of the Romanian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery and member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) and shall be in charge of a 4-surgeons team, national and international reputed medical doctors, among which: Răsvan Vasile, MD, Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon, PhD in Medical Sciences and Senior Lecturer with the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Bogdan Rădulescu MD, Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon, PhD in Medical Sciences and assistant professor with Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

“Romania is a country with a very high cardiovascular risk, among the highest in Europe, and representing the main cause of death. Approximately 7 million Romanian are suffering from cardiovascular diseases, the most common being ischemic heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, myocarditis, pericarditis, and endocarditis. By investing in the newest equipment and attracting the best specialists in the field, the Romanian will find at SANADOR complete solutions for treating such medical conditions”, stated Doris Andronescu, MD, Sanador managing director.

The new department has 4 operating rooms (out the 7 existing operating rooms) equipped with laminar flow ceiling system, that provide the highest asepsis level, and reduces to the minimum the risk of nosocomial infections. Each operating room is served by its own air treating plant.

The department shall connected to the Anesthesiology and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, managed by Mihaela Crăciun, MD –Consultant in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, specialized in cardiovascular pathology, having 6 fully-equipped beds, all their features being electrically-operated, with “bridge” console panel above the bed, that ensure the functionality and necessary asepsis level. Also, the unit has a mechanically-assisted cardio-circulatory system (of intra-aortic balloon pump) and thrombelastograph (that allows the possibility for complex monitor of sanguine coagulation during the surgical intervention with extracorporeal circulation and during post-surgical period)

Hospitalization is offered in single or double bed side-rooms, having maximum of facilities.

Inaugurated in 2011, further to an investment of EUR 40 million, Sanador Hospital is currently the largest private hospital in Romania.
